Getting Started

• What is MyTune.com?
  • MyTune brings fans, bands, and music industry professionals together to discover the hottest new talent. Play, listen, and vote for the artists you think deserve a chance to get a record deal as well as cash prizes.
• How do I become a Member?
  • Just click on the 'Signup' button at the top of the page and select your account type
• How much does MyTune cost?
  • Nothing! The site is absolutely free for it's Fans, Artists as well as the Industry insiders.
• What makes MyTune unique?
  • MyTune offers all the social networking capabilities of other sites but is catered specifically to music. More importantly, we are the only site that has music industry support, from A&R reps, to Major record companies, indy record labels, managers, lawyers and publishers. The fan votes decide what the record industry hears, which in turn could lead to a record deal as well as the cash prize.
• What kind of membership should I choose?
  • Simple enough, if you're an artist and have music to sell, select 'Artist'; if you're a fan, music-lover, or just wanna hang out and find good music, select 'Music-Lover'; and if you're a label that has a couple of artists that you want to put up, select 'Label'
• What services do I have access to as an Artist?
  • Beyond everything that we've become accustomed to through sites like MySpace (Blogs, Photos, Videos, Music, Bio, Tour info, etc) you can also sell music and ringtones from your page.
• What can I do as a Member?
  • Download music, find artists, keep up to date with show information, find friends, all kinds of good stuff!

Rating, Picks, Featured Artists, etc.

• How does the rating system work?
  • We use whats called a bayesian estimate formula and some top secret calculations to make sure the ratings are fair and accurate.
• Artists: Why does my rating starts off w/ 1 vote of 0.
  • We do this for two reasons: 1) Obviously, any artist would rate themselves as a 5 given the opportunity… after all, your music is great, right? 2) Doing it this way makes artists work their way up the system as people rate them and keeps things fair.
• How do I rate for an artist?
  • You must create an account and login to rate for artists, select them for 'Member Picks' or vote on songs. To rate, mouse over the rating in the artist's control panel and click when you have selected the rating you wish to give them… it's a lot easier than it sounds… try it out!
• How do you select the monthly 'Featured Artist'?
  • Our staff of music industry experts selects the artists we like the most. You cannot recommend yourself or buy a featured artist position.

Login

• I didn't receive my verification email?
  • Check your 'Bulk' or 'Junk' folders… especially for AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo!. If you still can't find it, send us an email at info@MyTune.com
• What should I do if I forgot my password?
  • Follow the 'Lost Password' link in the sign-up module on the home page. If you still have problems, email us at info@MyTune.com
• How do I change my username or password?
  • Your username is your unique id and cannot be changed. You can change your password by clicking on the 'Account Details' link in your Preferences Panel.
• I'm having trouble logging in
  • Send us an email describing your problem at info@MyTune.com

Profile Preferences

• How do I change my profile photo?
  • You can edit your profile pic by clicking on the 'Manage Photos' link in your Preferences Panel. The pic that is at the top left is your profile pic (it says 'main' underneath it)
• Can I use html? Can I add links?
  • We currently don't allow html anywhere on the site.
• How do I add video to my profile?
  • You can add videos to your profile by clicking on 'Manage Videos' in your Preferences Panel. Here you can enter links to your videos (hosted elsewhere) or embed codes from YouTube.
• How do I add friends and artists?
  • Just visit anyone's profile and click on the 'add to friends' button in their contact panel. You will automatically be added to artists as a subscriber, but friends must approve your request before you will show up on each others' profiles.

Members

• How can I add a song to "My Favorite Artist" on my page?
  • When you're listening to music on the site, there is a button called 'Make Artist My Favorite' in the player. While the song is playing, just click on this button and the song will be added to your profile. NOTE: You can only have 1 song at a time, whenever you click the button again, it will replace your previous favorite.
• Can I upload music to my profile?
  • No, you need to have an artist account to upload music. Members can add songs from artists on the site to their profile through My Favorite Artist (described above).

Artists

• How do I upload music?
  • To upload music, go to your profile and click on 'Manage Music' in your Preferences Panel. Click on 'Add New Songs' in the top header and follow the instructions on the page
• How do I sell Ringtones?
  • When you upload new songs to MF, you can select if you want to also make a ringtone for it, as well as set the start time and price of the ringtone. Ringtones are set to $1.99. Ringtones are always exactly 30 seconds long. You can edit your Ringtone Preferences later in the Song Matrix.
• How do I sell physical cds?
  • We don't offer the sale of actual physical CD's.
• How many songs can I upload? How many albums can I create?
  • Unlimited, and Unlimited. Post as many songs and create as many albums as you want, you just can't have more than 24 songs in one album.
• What percentage do you take on sales?
  • Check out the payment calculator. You keep 51% on all sales.
• I can sell my music other places?
  • Absolutely. MyTune is completely non-exclusive and you can do as you like at any time.
• About the Artist Bank Account
  • The Artist Bank Account lets you know how much you've made from sales. Each transaction and detail of the songs sold will appear in the bank, also denoting whether it's a song, album or ringtone. You can also choose to hold payment or convert your sales to store credit. If you have not sold the required $10.00 since sign-up, or since your last payout, the hold payment option will be grayed out.
• What is Promo Use?
  • This option on the song upload page makes the track available to MyTune's Promotional Partners for promotional use, including Podcasting and PodTracks. This also allows MyTune.com to use the song for its compilations, but don't worry, we still pay you on sales.
• About the SongMatrix™
  • For Artists, the 'Song Matrix' is one of the most powerful features of the site. It's pretty self-explanatory, but you can set all the configurable options on the site from one place (e.g. promo use, available for MyTune radio, preview length, how your song is available (sell, free, stream), etc.)
• How come I can't add some people as friends?
  • Some of our users prefer to refuse friend requests from bands. This allows them to control which artists they subscribe to and helps them avoid being spammed….

Technical Stuff

• Do you encode the songs with any DRM? (Digital Rights Management)
  • No, we find DRM to be too restrictive. All the music on the site are unprotected mp3s.
• Do you only support music mp3s?
  • No, comedians, books on tape, poetry, etc are also supported by our player.
• What's the file size limit for songs?
  • Each song can be no larger than 15mb.
• Do you support videos as well?
  • We allow videos that are hosted elsewhere (like youtube) to be streamed through our site. See 'How do I add videos to my profile' above.
• What file format do you use for audio?
  • All of the music on the site is mp3. The bit depth is decided by the artist when they convert their files but most are between 128k & 192k
• My music sounds like The Chipmunks or Barry White, what went wrong?
  • The sample rate of your mp3 is wrong. Our player requires that mp3s are sampled at 44.1khz. Read our 'Tutorial: Making MP3s' to learn how to correct this problem.
• How do I change my MyTune URL?
  • Your MyTune URL is unique and can only be set once. Unfortunately, we cannot change these once they are set.

Purchasing Music

• Do I have to create an account to purchase music?
  • Follow the link on the home page or click on 'Signup' at the top of the page. Click on 'Fans' and follow the steps. You should be purchasing music in just a few minutes.
• Is my information safe?
  • Absolutely. We have gone to great lengths to make sure we protect any and all of your personal information.
• I'm having problems with my order, what do I do?
  • Check the Purchased Music link in your Preferences Panel and try and re-download your songs. If you still have problems, email us at info@MyTune.com and we will see if we can help.
• I didn't get my order, I want a refund.
  • All sales are final. In extreme circumstances, we can offer store credit, or send you a check for the amount of the purchase, minus transaction fees. We do not refund credit cards as we get charged a $35 fee from our Credit Card Transaction company.

Ringtones (PocketFuzz)

• How do I know if my phone is supported?
  • Our Rintone partner, PocketFuzz, supports most carriers in the US & Canada, and most modern phones that support mp3s. When you add a Ringtone to the cart, our system will allow you to select your phone model and carrier. You can edit this later in your Account Details.
• What do I do if I don't get my Ringtone?
  • Email ringtone@mytune.com and we'll get you taken care of.
• If there is a problem, do you refund my money?
  • We will work with you and do everything we can to make sure you get your Ringtone. If you still have problems, we can either issue store credit, or send you a check. We do not refund credit cards as it costs us $35 in chargeback fees.
